Frequently Asked Questions

Are the games really free?

Yes. All 22 games on EpicCade are free to play, with no download, no account and no in-game purchases. The site is paid for by ads, which are never placed over the game area, never next to touch controls and never interrupt play.

Do I need an account?

No. There are no accounts and no sign-up. Your scores, achievements, level, streak, favourites and settings are kept in your browser on the device you play on.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Games run directly in your browser using WebGL 2, which current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari support on desktop and mobile. If you like, you can add EpicCade to your home screen to launch it like an app; the browser offers this from your third visit.

Where is my progress saved?

In your browser's local storage on this device. Your saves are never sent to us. To move them, export your profile as a file from the Profile page and import it in another browser or on another device. Clearing your browser's site data deletes your progress, so export first if you want to keep it.

Can I play offline?

Yes, once you have visited. EpicCade is a progressive web app: the site itself and every game you have already played are cached, so they keep working without a connection. Games you have never opened need a connection the first time.

Can I use a gamepad?

Yes. Every game supports controllers your browser recognises. Plug one in or connect it over Bluetooth and press a button. The pause, settings and results menus work with the D-pad and the A and B buttons, and the first-person shooter Neon Depths adds aim assist for gamepads.

What are daily challenges?

Every game has a Daily mode, a seeded challenge that is identical for every player on the same day. It changes at 00:00 UTC. The Daily page lists all of today's challenges with your results and your streak, and you can share a result as a short emoji summary.

How do levels, XP and streaks work?

You earn XP for the time you spend in a run and for unlocking achievements, and XP raises your player level. Each game has its own achievements and a local top-10 for each mode. Playing on consecutive days builds your day streak. All of it is stored on your device.

The game is slow or choppy. What can I do?

Open Settings and lower the graphics quality (Low still looks good) or reduce the render scale. Make sure hardware acceleration is turned on in your browser settings. The quality tier is picked automatically on your first visit, and dynamic resolution briefly lowers the resolution when the frame rate drops.

Can I change the controls?

Yes. Every action in every game can be remapped for keyboard and gamepad on the Settings page. You can also change the size and opacity of the touch controls, mouse sensitivity, invert look and field of view.

Is there anything for colour-blind players?

Yes. Settings has deuteranopia, protanopia and tritanopia palettes, used by the games where colour carries meaning, such as Blockfall, Gem Swap, Minesweep, Solitaire and Brick Blitz. There are also options to reduce motion and turn down screen shake.

Can I take screenshots of the 3D games?

Yes. The 3D games have a photo mode in the pause menu: it freezes the action and gives you a free camera, depth of field, filters and exposure. You can download or share the shot, and saved shots appear in the gallery on your Profile page.

How do I report a bug or get in touch?

Email contact@epiccade.com. Bug reports are most useful with the game, your browser and device, and what happened just before the problem.
