A neon arena paddle duel with spin, power-ups and a roaring crowd.
Paddle Duel takes the oldest video game duel there is, two paddles and a puck, and stages it as a night final in a futuristic arena. Your paddle is a glass light tube, the puck is a white-hot spark that paints the lacquered floor as it flies, and thousands of fans in the stands light up and roar as a rally gets longer.
Underneath the spectacle is a precise little sport. Where the puck meets your paddle sets its angle, moving the paddle as you hit puts spin on it so it curves, and every return makes it faster. Play first to 11 (win by two) against three honest AI opponents, challenge a friend on the same keyboard, phone or a pair of gamepads, or switch on Chaos for multi-puck, shield walls and warp gates.

How to play
- Move your paddle up and down to keep the puck out of your goal. Miss it and your opponent scores a point. The first player to 11 points wins, but you must win by two clear points, so 10–10 goes to deuce.
- Where the puck strikes the paddle decides the return angle: dead centre sends it straight back, the ends of the tube send it away at a steep angle that is much harder to reach.
- Move the paddle while you hit to curve the puck. Sweeping upward bends the return upward as it travels, and the curve fades over time. Curved shots fool slower opponents.
- Every hit makes the puck a little faster until it reaches top speed, so long rallies get more and more intense. The serve alternates every two points (every point at deuce).
- In Chaos, glass power-up orbs appear on the court. Hit the puck through one and its effect goes to whoever touched the puck last.

Modes
- Versus · Rookie
- First to 11, win by 2, against a forgiving AI.
- Versus · Pro
- A sharp AI that reads spin and aims its returns.
- Versus · Champion
- Fast reactions, precise reads. Beat it if you can.
- Chaos
- Against the Pro AI with power-ups: multi-ball, shields, warp gates and more.
- 2 Players
- Local head-to-head: W/S vs ↑/↓, two gamepads, or one half of the screen each.
- Daily Gauntlet Daily
- Three AI opponents with today's modifiers, the same for everyone. Win fast for a time bonus.
Tips & strategy
- Aim with the ends of your paddle. A centred hit is safe but easy to return; an edge hit sends the puck at a steep angle off the rails.
- Put spin on your shots. Moving the paddle as you make contact bends the puck, and the Rookie AI barely reads curve at all.
- After every hit, drift back toward the middle of your goal so you are never more than half the court away from the next return.
- Watch the rails. A puck heading for the side wall will bounce, so move to where it will be after the bounce, not where it is now.
- The puck speeds up with every hit. If a rally gets too fast to control, a steep angled return is your best chance to finish it.
- In Chaos, a Shield Wall saves one goal. Go for riskier shots while it is up.
- Mouse and touch move the paddle directly to your pointer, which is the fastest control. Keyboard and gamepad move it at a set speed; hold Shift (or LB) for fine adjustments.

A short history of the genre
Two paddles and a ball are where video games went mainstream. Bat-and-ball tennis games appeared on oscilloscopes and early computers in the late 1950s and 1960s, and in the early 1970s a coin-operated table-tennis game turned a simple bounce into a bar-room phenomenon and launched the arcade industry. Home consoles that plugged into the family television followed within a few years, almost all of them built around a paddle duel.
The formula proved endlessly adaptable: angled returns from the edge of the paddle, a ball that speeds up during a rally, spin, four-player variants and power-ups all arrived over the following decades. Paddle Duel keeps the pure head-to-head at its heart and adds a modern physics model, honest AI opponents and a stadium to play it in.
FAQ
Is Paddle Duel free?
Yes. Paddle Duel is free to play in your browser with no download or sign-up. The site is supported by unobtrusive ads that never cover the game.
Can two people play on one device?
Yes. Choose 2 Players: on a keyboard player 1 uses W and S and player 2 uses the arrow keys; with two gamepads connected each player gets one; on a phone or tablet each player drags on their own half of the screen.
How does the AI work? Does it cheat?
No. The AI only looks at the puck every fraction of a second, misjudges where it will arrive (less as the puck gets closer), reads spin only partly, and moves its paddle at a limited speed. Rookie is forgiving, Pro aims its returns, and Champion is very sharp but still beatable with steep angles and curve.
What is the Daily Gauntlet?
Three AI opponents in a row, each with modifiers such as a heavy puck, tiny paddles, turbo speed, warp gates or chaos power-ups. Matches are first to 5 (win by two). Lose once and the run ends. Your score adds up points won, a bonus for each victory and a time bonus for winning quickly. Everyone gets the same gauntlet each day.
How is my score calculated?
Each point you win is worth 100 plus 10 per hit in that rally. Winning the match adds 1,500 plus 200 for every point of victory margin. Pro and Chaos scores are multiplied by 1.5 and Champion scores by 2. In 2 Players mode the result is your longest rally.
What do the Chaos power-ups do?
Multi-Puck splits the puck into three, Big Paddle grows your paddle, Shrink Ray shrinks your opponent's, Curve Ball gives the puck heavy spin and boosts your curve, Shield Wall blocks one goal, and Warp Gates open two portals that teleport the puck across the court.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. The arena turns to fit portrait screens, your paddle follows your finger, and it works in landscape too. Graphics quality adapts to your device automatically.
